New Delhi: Cricket fans have something to look forward to as MS Dhoni gears up to make his comeback on the field for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). CSK will kick off their campaign against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 23. With Dhoni focusing solely on his IPL commitments, enthusiasts will have to wait patiently for 10 months to witness his thrilling performance once again.

Dhoni, who will remain under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, is on the verge of making history as he approaches a significant milestone in IPL 2025. He is set to become the first player globally to participate in 400 T20 matches, 350 One Day Internationals, and 50 Test matches during the IPL 2025 season.

The ex-captain of India concluded his international career with 350 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 90 Test matches. He also participated in 98 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) and has played a total of 391 T20 matches. Dhoni is only 9 T20 appearances short of achieving a historical milestone.

CSK is set to compete in their ninth match of the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai on April 25. This match will mark Dhoni’s 400th T20 game at his home ground.

Indian players who have played more than 400 T20s
Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik are two Indian cricketers who have each participated in over 400 T20 matches. Rohit has played 448 T20 games and is set to reach 450 appearances at the beginning of IPL 2025. He concluded his T20 International career after guiding India to victory in the 2024 World Cup.

Karthik has participated in 412 T20 matches. Although he has stepped away from Indian cricket, he remains active in professional cricket, having played for Paarl Royals in the SA20 league. Virat Kohli has competed in 399 T20 matches to date and is one match away from becoming the third Indian player to reach 400 T20 appearances.
